Ultrasound

Real-time imaging. Zero radiation.

What happens during an ultrasound?

You lie down while a clear conducting gel is applied to the skin. The sonographer moves a handheld transducer over the area being examined, changing position as needed to capture complete images. The exam is painless.

How do I prepare?

Prep varies by exam — abdominal studies may need fasting; pelvic studies may need a full bladder. We'll confirm when you schedule.

What equipment is used?

  • GE LOGIQ — Live, radiation-free imaging of organs and vessels.

Where can I get this exam?

Ultrasound is available at eight of our centers — Palm Harbor MRI, Palm Harbor MRI – Wesley Chapel, Highland MRI, Winter Haven MRI, Brandon MRI, Sarasota MRI, Venice MRI and Venice MRI – Port Charlotte. One call reaches every location — we will schedule you at whichever has the soonest opening, usually the same week.

How do I prepare for an ultrasound?

Preparation varies by exam. Abdominal studies may require fasting, and pelvic studies may require a full bladder. We confirm exactly what your exam needs when you schedule.

How long does an ultrasound take?

Most ultrasound exams take 20 to 40 minutes.

Is ultrasound painful?

No. You will feel the transducer and cool gel on your skin, and mild pressure as the sonographer captures images.
